This hotel is a “child” of 2 people from different cultures: Indian-British Sonu Shivdasani and his Swedish-born wife, Eva Malmström-Shivdasani who he met during his time at Oxford. As you can guess, the name SONEVA is the combination of their names. And FUSHI means “island” in Maldivian language (dhivehi). The resort was built in 1995.

Как вы могли догадаться название SONEVA – это комбинация имен этой пары. А FUSHI означает остров в переводе с языка на котором говорят на Мальдивах (дивехи). Резорт появился на Мальдивах в 1995 году.

Going on an excursion. First of all I would like to emphasize that the design and decoration of the resort is a creation of Eva Shivdasani and her team. She is known as a person with impeccable taste and her attention to details is legendary among her colleagues. You can appreciate it in the first part of the article where I’ve showed some details of the interior.

Room categories are categorized according to the number of bedrooms. This is villa #42 on the photo – a luxury beachfront private residence which has 6 bedrooms and a total area of 2,250 sqm. In spite of the fact that it is big, there is an option to combine this villa with the nearest one, and add 3 bedrooms more in the separate building.

Категории размещения разделены в зависимости от количества спален. На фото вилла #42 – роскошная частная резиденция с прямым доступом к пляжу, в которой есть 6 спален а общая площадь составляет 2,250 кв. м. И не смотря на то, что она большая сама по себе, есть также опция объединить эту виллу с соседней, добавив еще 3 спальни в отдельном здании.

Cinema Paradiso is an open-air theater with a huge screen. They say, there were prescreening of Hollywood movies here. Unfortunately I missed the movie this evening, but I definitely love the idea! Besides, this is the first “silent” cinema in the Maldives, where every spectator is given a headphones, not to disturb animals of the island with loud sounds.

В Soneva Fushi есть открытый кинотеатр. Рассказывали, что здесь проводили предпоказы голливудских фильмов. К сожалению я не успела посетить сеанс в тот вечер, но мне определенно нравится эта задумка. Кроме того, это первый “беззвучный” кинотеатр на Мальдивах, в котором каждому зрителю выдаются наушники, чтобы не распугивать живых обитателей острова громкими звуками.

FRESH IN THE GARDEN is a 2 level restaurant, where the 2nd floor is rising above the banana trees, opening view from above to the dense jungle of the island. There is also a vegetable and herb garden. At once I smelled curry bush aroma, which I’ve only seen before as a powder in the supermarket.

FRESH IN THE GARDEN – это двухуровневый ресторан, второй этаж которого возвышается над банановыми пальмами, открывая вид сверху на густые джунгли острова. Здесь же находится огород, в котором выращивают много овощей, зелени и пряностей. Я сразу учуяла аромат кустов карри, которые до этого видела только в виде порошка в магазине.

I am a big fan of different decorative elements and details of the interior and the exterior; that’s why I always pay attention to these kind of art-objects, especially if they’re made of natural materials, like this driftwood bench.

Я большой фанат всяческих декоративных элементов и деталей интерьера и экстерьера, поэтому я всегда обращаю внимание на такие арт-объекты, особенно если они сделаны из натуральных материалов, как эта скамья из дрифтующего дерева.

Another room category, which is named Sunset Retreat has 2 bungalows, with 2 stores each. I am not writing a full description of each area on the island, this information you may find at the official website of the hotel. But the interesting things of this bungalow, for example are the open-air bathroom, surrounded by the water and plants and the dining pavilion above the pool.

Еще одна категория размещения под названием Sunset Retreat с 2мя бунгало, каждый из которых имеет 2 этажа. Я не делаю подробное описание каждого помещения на острове, эту информацию вы можете найти на официальном сайте отеля. Но из интересного, например в этом бунгало сеть ванная комната под открытым небом в окружении воды и растений и столовая на балконе над бассейном.

Admiring the sunset, sitting in the nest above the ocean in Bar(a)bara . The water is crystal clear here, you will surely see turtles and even dolphins from this amazing view point.

I had tempura king prawns for a starter. It was incredibly delicious. For the main dish I went to another restaurant. Take a look at the table appointments; the natural materials and asceticism maintain the overall concept of the resort.

На стартер были тигровые креветки темпура. Они были невероятно вкусными. За основным блюдом я отправилась в другой ресторан. Обратите внимание на аксессуары сервировки, натуральные материалы и аскетизм поддерживают общий концепт отеля.

Remember, I promised to show you the OBSERVATORY? This is a magnificent place! 14th inch telescope zooming in 400x, I was able to see the craters on the moon with my own eyes. The photo below was made with a phone camera through the telescope viewfinder. Also I saw Jupiter with its 3 satellites. The keeper of the telescope – a young man in the photo said that once he had seen the 4th satellite. He was so excited telling about the stars, you simply must hear him!

Помните, я обещала, что ночью мы заглянем в обсерваторию? Вот это потрясающее место! 14-ти дюймовый телескоп Celestrone увеличивает в 400 раз, я смогла рассмотреть своими глазами кратеры на луне. Фото ниже сделано на телефон через видоискатель телескопа. Кроме этого я успела разглядеть Юпитер с его 3-мя спутниками. А хранитель этого телескопа – молодой человек на фото рассказывал, что однажды видел и 4-й его спутник. Он так увлекательно рассказывал о звёздах, это надо слышать!

Unfortunately I spent only one night on the island. But I’ve tried to see and show you all I could in this short period of time.

К сожалению я успела провести на острове всего одну ночь. Но постаралась увидеть и показать вам максимум за этот короткий промежуток времени.
